Born Free

Born Free is a popular song composed by John Barry with lyrics by Don Black. It was written for the 1966 movie of the same name, and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Matt Monro sang the piece on the movie's soundtrack album and it became his signature tune. Roger Williams, Andy Williams, and Frank Sinatra all recorded successful cover versions.

John Barry (1933 - 2011) was an English composer and conductor of movie music. He composed the soundtracks for eleven of the James Bond movies between 1963 and 1987, and also arranged and performed the James Bond Theme Music. He wrote the scores to the award winning movies Midnight Cowboy, Dances with Wolves, and Out of Africa. Barry was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) at Buckingham Palace for services to music, received the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Don Black (born in 1938) is an English lyricist. His works have included numerous musicals, movie themes, and hit songs. He has provided lyrics for John Barry, Charles Strouse, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Quincy Jones, Lulu, Jule Styne, Henry Mancini, Michael Jackson, Elmer Bernstein, Michel Legrand, Hayley Westenra, A. R. Rahman, Marvin Hamlisch, and Debbie Wiseman. Don was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) at Buckingham Palace for his services to music, was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Arts by the City of London University, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
