Boccherini's Minuet

Boccherini's Minuet from String Quartet in E Major (Opus 11, Number 5; G.275) was written in 1771 and is one of his most popular works. The Minuet, which is the third movement of the quartet, is sometimes called The Celebrated Minuet, and is featured in the 1955 British movie The Ladykillers.

Luigi Boccherini (1743 - 1805) was a prolific Italian composer and cellist. He is most widely known for his Minuet from String Quartet in E Major and for his Cello Concerto in B Flat Major (G.482). His Mussica notturna delle strade di Madrid, a String Quintet in C Major (Opus 30 Number 6; G324), is featured in the 2003 British-Australian movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Boccherini's style exhibits much melodic and rhythmic invention, coupled with frequent influences from the guitar tradition of Spain, his adopted country.
