Beethoven Sonatinas
Beethoven's Sonatina in E Flat Major is the first of his Kurfürstensonaten (Elector sonatas), WoO 47, which were dedicated to the Elector (Kurfürst) Maximilian Frederick, and composed in 1782 and 1783 when Beethoven was only eleven and twelve years old.
Beethoven's Sonatina in G Major (Anh.5, No.1) is a charming piece long enjoyed by listeners and beginning piano students. However, there appears to be some question as to who actually composed it. Indeed, according to the Wikipedia article "Sonatina in G major (Beethoven)", "Since the work was published ... after Beethoven's death, its authenticity is doubted, as it uses styles never seen by Beethoven before."
Beethoven's Sonatina in F Major (Anh 5, No. 2) has two movements. The first movement is marked "Allegro Assai." The second movement is marked "Rondo, Allegro." Both movements are in 2/4 time.
The music of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) is one of humanity's greatest treasures. Unsurpassed in its power of expression as well as its depth and diversity of ideas and feelings, it provides boundless joy to listeners and performers.
