Beautiful Dreamer

The last song known to be written by Stephen Foster, Beautiful Dreamer was published posthumously in 1864, when Foster died. It has been recorded by singers such as Bing Crosby, Steve Conway, Thomas Hampson, John Leyton, and Roy Orbison. And it has been used in many films, including Gone with the Wind and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Widely considered the pre-eminent American songwriter in the nineteenth century, Stephen Collins Foster (1826 - 1864) wrote songs that remain popular long after they were written. Among them are Oh! Susanna, Camptown Races, Old Folks at Home (Swanee River), Hard Times Come Again No More, My Old Kentucky Home, Old Black Joe, and Beautiful Dreamer.
