Bach Goldberg Variations

The Goldberg Variations consists of an aria and 30 variations. This masterpiece by J. S. Bach was named after Johann Gottlieb Goldberg , who may have been the first performer.

The piece was inspired by Count Kaiserling, the former Russian ambassador to the electoral court of Saxony. The Count, who often had sleepless nights, mentioned in Bach's presence that he would like to have Goldberg play him some cheerful clavier pieces with a smooth and somewhat lively character for those sleepless nights.

The music of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) is one of humanity's greatest treasures. It is unsurpassed in its expression of profound reverence for life, and in its depth and diversity of ideas and feelings. It provides boundless joy to listeners and performers.
