Always Look on the Bright Side of Life is a popular song written by Eric Idle, and originally featured in the 1979 movie Monty Python's Life of Brian. The movie gained a cult status; and the song, a common singalong at public events, was particularly popular until the early 1990s and has been covered by artists such as Harry Nilsson and Art Garfunkel.

Eric Idle (born in 1943) is an English comedian, actor, author, singer, writer, and comedic composer. Idle was a member of the British comedy group Monty Python, performed on the Saturday Night Live television program, and wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical Spamalot. The asteroid 9620 Ericidle is named for him.

Monty Python was a British comedy group that created Monty Python's Flying Circus, a British television comedy-show, broadcast on the BBC from 1969 to 1974. The "Monty Python phenomenon" evolved from the television series into shows, movies, albums, books, and a stage musical.
