Alexander Gedike Works

Alexander Goedicke (1877–1957) was a Russian composer, organist, and pianist. He composed operas, cantatas, orchestral works, and romances. In 1900, he won the Rubinstein Competition in Vienna. He was People's Artist of the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) in 1946, and laureate of the Stalin Prize in 1948. 


Beginning in 1909, Alexander Goedicke was a professor at the Moscow Conservatory. He became the head of the organ department in 1923. Widely considered as the founder of the Soviet organ school, Goedicke taught many prominent organists. His repertoire covered the entirety of Johann Sebastian Bach’s organ works, and he made organ arrangements for numerous Bach symphonic and piano pieces.
