12 Romances, Opus 21, by Rachmaninoff

Sergei Rachmaninoff's 12 Romances, Opus 21, is a set of pieces for voice and piano, all composed in 1902 except Number 1 which was composed in 1900. Russian librettos were written by various authors.

Number 4, allegro vivace in D-flat major, is called They Answered, and its libretto was written by the Russian dramatist and poet Lev Mey (1822–1862).

A Russian piano virtuoso, Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 - 1943) was one of the last great composers of the Romantic era of music. His compositions are renowned for their lyricism, expressive breadth, structural ingenuity, and a tonal palette of rich distinctive colors.
