Multi-Component Drops
Chemical Reactions in Drops and Competition between Order and Disorder
Drops containing two or more different inner drops are important for performing chemical reactions in drops. As a platform for combinatorial chemistry, micro-reactors could permit thousands or millions of individual reactions to be analyzed at lower costs than conventional analysis by coalescing inner drops containing valuable or scarce reagents. Barcoding drops is also possible with these multi-component systems. Another interesting avenue of research is studying interactions between inner droplets confined inside a spherical boundary and probing the relation between order and disorder of drops of different sizes or composition by shaking the drops as a thermodynamic property.
