I’ve learnt how to drive with Gavin and what is there to say! I couldn’t have wished for a more wonderful driving teacher and you learn everything, so extremely articulately and well. However, at the heart of his driving lessons is the incredibly warm, lovely personality and he never fails to make you laugh. It’s no wonder he has such a high success rate of getting people to pass 1st time. I did too! I don’t have enough nice words to say about Gavin and I couldn’t have enjoyed my experience of learning how to drive any more. Anyone who is taught by him should consider themselves extremely lucky. All I can say to him is thank you, especially for pushing me and believing in me when I didn’t necessarily believe in my own driving abilities. Thank you.

Informative, safe and an overall great atmosphere to learn in. Gavin has been an incredible instructor with the patience of a saint. I went from a very negative mind set at the beginning, with many moments of deflation and feeling like ‘I can’t do this’. Gavin always managed to snap me back into focus and help me through difficulties. I gradually became a more confidant person and tackled aspects of driving I never knew were possible for me. After what felt like an impossible end result, managed to PASS with 2 minors!!! I can honestly say I will miss our lessons and the funny moments we’ve had on the funny moments we’ve had on the road. I have spent a week trying to write a review for Gav because I don't know how to begin to word my gratitude. I was pretty sure that I was unteachable; I would never master left and right, let alone learn to operate a vehicle. I never thought I would enjoy learning to drive, it was just something I had to do. Instead, Gav was louder and wiser than all the anxious voices in my head, and I genuinely couldn't wait for my next lesson. We laughed about my mistakes in a way that meant I learnt from them and left lessons smiling. It sounds ridiculous to say but it was honestly life changing. Gavin is by far the best driving instructor you could get in the UK. If you need someone who is calm Gavin’s your man. Sometimes we as learners get into ‘hairy situations’ and Gavin is who you need to help you without shouting! That is simply not his style. Gavin is punctual, reliable and definitely goes the extra mile to make sure you are able get your test passed with flying colours. One special thing I love about Gavin’s teaching is the syllabus and how he teaches it. Everything has a process which ‘simplifies’, certainly for possibly what most learner drivers fear ‘the parallel park’! With Gavin I passed first time with only 3 minors. Anyway, with Gavin you are sure to ‘soar as a Phoenix from the ashes’ and propel your freedom forward comfortably knowing that all the routines you learn with Gavin are safe and simplify your driving. Having waited months since my last test, taken in Derbyshire, I was desperate to drive. I had absolutely no experience in the worksop area. Thankfully, Gavin, at Phoenix, was able to give me lessons just four weeks, prior to my exam. Gavin taught in a way that was fun, clear and easy to remember. I came to Gavin with my test already booked, having had it cancelled and moved four times due to COVID. I was really lacking confidence and had previously dreaded my lessons and being out in the car. I cannot recommend Gav enough. After being let down by my previous driving instructor only weeks away from my driving test Gav kindly took me on and squeezed me in where he could. In the three weeks Gav taught me I progressed and learned more than I had done in all my previous lessons. My driving became worlds better and in just 7 lessons he prepared me enough to take my driving test. His method of teaching and his friendliness combined to make a brilliant learning environment and one that worked wonders for me. After my first lesson with Gavin, I knew I had met a great person with a real interest in helping me learn to drive. He was interested in what I wanted to get out of each lesson and made sure that I felt comfortable, before moving on to different areas of driving. I passed first time in March 2019 with 2 minor faults, thanks to Gavin! I took my very first lessons when I was 30 years old so was nervous about getting started as I'd left it late. Every lesson I had with Gav was fun and enjoyable. Everything I was taught was made very simple and safe. Every manoeuvre was laid out with step by step instructions which really helped me. After much research into all the local driving instructors in the area, I decided to go with Gavin. His pass rate was extremely appealing as were his reviews as they were very personal to each individual character. Gavin took me on as a pupil after I had failed my test with another driving instructor. I was under the impression because I had been put for my test that I knew everything. Gavin was patient and understanding with my attitude and made me feel relaxed. He had taught me all the things that the previous instructor had missed out or taught me the wrong way! I am definitely not a good writer, but I will try my best. First, I am sorry for sounding like a beginning of a romance story,we have been driving together for around 2 years. First lessons were exciting, as I am quite an excitable person! We have been through good and bad, but I always ended up with the best advice from my driving instructor. For the past 2 years and them some I have been having driving lessons with Phoenix Driving School. Gavin was very patient with me and he didn’t push me or say I was ready before I thought I was, I had my ups and downs but he was there for me and we would talk and laugh about anything, no driving lesson was the same. When I took my first driving test I didn’t pass and Gavin was very good about it telling me to have some time off from driving just to regroup and be focused on my driving and not to be too disappointed that I didn’t pass. I started drivng lesson a few years ago but unfortunately I had to stop due the health reasons. Once my health was back in order I found Phoenix driving school and decided to start having lessons again. Gav was very calming and thorough and made me feel completely ease right from day one. I felt he was a much better instructor than my previous one. Even when I felt nervous about certain routes or manoeuvres I hadnt done before. His instructions were clear and easy to follow. I would often go home smiling as I knew I was learning so much more than before. Once the time came that Gav felt I was ready for my test, Gav told me I had nothing to worry about that I could do this and he wouldnt have put me in for it if he felt i wasnt ready. On the day of the test I used all the knowledge that Gav had taught me and I passed the first time with only 2 minors. I can't emphasise enough just how thankful I am to Gav for everything. I've had other instructors before but none compared to the precise, calming, friendly and professional tuition I have received from Phoenix driving school. As soon as I met Gav I knew we would get on and his temperament was perfect for me. He pushed me when I doubted myself and praised me when I did well. I can honestly not thank Gav enough for getting me through my test I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. Having been messed around previously by 2 driving instructors I was losing hope and confidence that I would ever pass. I moved to Worksop In April 2014 and contacted Gav about lessons and since that first call I have never looked back! Despite having picked up some awful habits and a bad attitude towards driving due to past experiences his methodical and simple methods made driving enjoyable and his positive attitude, patience and constant encouragement made driving lessons something to look forward to, it was more like meeting a friend. I felt my confidence grow every lesson with every area of driving being taught to an amazing amount of detail which put me at a good stead for the world of driving not just passing my test.

On the day of my test it was fair to say I was nervous but I had the realisation that I could do this, something I never thought would happen. AND I DID! Shortly before putting in for my test I was telling Gav I was a bit worried about "driving solo" once I had qualified. He tried to put me at ease by trying to get me to imagine a "Tiny Gavin" sitting on my headrest at all times giving me instructions. Frankly, I still wake up in a cold sweat at this thought (no offence Gav)!! . However, I would like to qualify this statement by adding that I was a very late starter (48 YO male), and was not really full of confidence re the whole learning to drive thing. The whole process was a journey involving both mastering the technical skills, and the gradual realisation that "I CAN DO THIS". Without any doubt, I put my success down to the professional approach Gav brings to every session (always pitched at the student’s needs), and his ability to ease people through any imagined setbacks as a positive learning experience. I cannot realistically imagine passing with another instructor with the sense of gratitude I feel towards Gav. I can't recommend this guy any higher, you won't regret having lessons with him. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning to drive with Gav. I'm 33 and so a bit of a late bloomer with regards to learning to drive. Gav has been patient but challenging with his approach. He has the experience and personality needed to be a great teacher, breaking each driving skill into easy to swallow pieces with a variety of humorous learning tools that help you to remember what's been taught. Each lessons refreshes what you learned last time and gives you something new to get your teeth into so you feel like progress is being made. His teaching style is very flexible, I certainly had good and bad days, but Gav adapted his style each time we met. His methods are very methodical and his pass rate shows that they're tried and tested. Gavin is a very good driving instructor: he takes you through the stages of learning to drive one by one to make sure you have learnt the first stage before moving on to a new one. You don't have too much to think about which means it's not at all overwhelming as you may think. Learning to drive with Gav was an experience I will never forget! I learned to drive whilst staying with my Dad for the summer, so we were on a tight time schedule. I had my first driving lesson on the 10/07/12 and passed my test just 7 weeks later on the 28/08/12. I had a driving lesson most days and returned home to Leicestershire for the weekends, not only did I only have a short amount of time I also had no knowledge of the area which was very daunting to begin with. Gav made sure I was always at ease and I will always be thankful for that! 4 months on I can safely say driving ha changed my life and I still sometimes feel as though I have a mini Gav in the car with me a he promised I would! Gav is always calm and fills your head with many sayings that stick with you not only just which learning but whenever you're driving afterwards! Superb Driving Instructor - I started my driving lessons shortly after I turned 17, I had little experience of driving but the way Gavin taught me, filled me with confidence and my driving skills improved week after week. Gav does not cut any corners when teaching, makes sure you fully understand the task ahead and will answer any questions or doubts you may have. Gavin was exactly the right driving instructor I needed! My name is Emma and I recently passed my driving test with Phoenix driving school! I was very apprehensive about taking driving lessons again as I had turned 27 without passing my test! He put me at ease straight away and supported me throughout my lessons and my test itself. Thanks Gav: My name is Philippa (AKA Pip) and I passed my driving test on the 10th July 2012. I started my driving lessons on the 10th June 2010, yes its seems like a long time 2 years but with all the injuries I had I needed that long. My driving instructor Gavin was a star, he supported me through all my injuries just like another friend. I used to have 1 hour a week driving usually at 9 am and it made my day with what me and Gav talked about, he really boosted my confidence in driving and in myself, he was always jolly and chatty but was also very good at his job, Gav explained everything to me when it came to driving, he made sure I knew exactly what I was doing, he even has a folder which is full of little drawings just so that his students understood what they were being asked to do. Gav is a lovely person full of spirit and is a joy to be around and thanks to him I passed my driving theory and practical first time. Gav really gave me the confidence to believe that I could drive. Absolutely Brilliant! I cannot fault Gav’s teaching what so ever. It is not just his thorough approach to instructing it is the whole driving experience you get from him. Every lesson and experience within the car is geared towards you and your success. You will never feel rushed or under any pressure, but there is always a sense of achievement when you perform specific manoeuvres and they are inch perfect. Confidence grows throughout the lessons and the amount of pride you get from each lesson gives you a buzz for the rest of the day and puts greater confidence in you before you come up to your test day. Having waited months since my last test, taken in Derbyshire, I was desperate to drive. I had absolutely no experience in the worksop area. Thankfully, Gavin, at Phoenix, was able to give me lessons just four weeks, prior to my exam. Gavin taught in a way that was fun, clear and easy to remember. He covered everything I needed to know from the ground up, making sure I was completely confident in everything I was being taught, many aspects of which I had never been taught.In the very little time I had, I was soon feeling much more prepared than I ever had been, to take the exam. It was an absolute pleasure taking my lessons with Phoenix! Gavin is a wonderful teacher. He is both friendly and full of knowledge, and thanks to him I passed my practical driving test with only three minors. I really can’t recommend him enough.
