Step 1
Open Word by double clicking on the desktop icon that has a picture of a blue W.
After Word loads, click on the large white rectangle that is titled "Blank Document" . It should be outlined in blue, in the upper left hand side of your screen.
Step 2
Save your work! Before you begin, let's set a file name and save it. Setting a file name and saving your work first is a good habit.
In the very top of your screen, you will see a tab with the word "File". Click on it. A list of options will appear on the left side of your screen. Click on the word "Save."
Double click on "Computer".
Then, under the word "Computer" on the popup window, find the file with your teacher's name. This is the file you want to save you work to. Single click on the file link.
Now, type you last name in the box for "file name". Click on the "save" button. You are done! The good news is the computer will remember this from now on. You only have to click the save icon at the top of the screen to save.
Step 3
In your document, click on the tab that reads "Insert" at the top of the page.
In the top toolbar, you now will see a variety of options of things you can insert. Find the button that reads "Text Box" and click on it.
The right side of your screen will have some options for you. Choose "Simple Tex Box" by clicking on it.
Step 4
Now that you have a text box, let's format it. Look at the top right hand side of your screen. You will see some numbers that represent how high and wide your text box is. Change the top number to 3 (height) and the bottom number to 7 (width). This will make your text box 3 inches high and 7 inches wide.
Step 5
Make a border around your text box by clicking on the option "shape outline" at the top of the page, and then choosing "weight". Select "4 1/2 pt". Set a color for your border by clicking on the "shape outline" option again and then choose a color from the grid.
Now save your work by clicking on the purple save icon at the top left of your screen.
