Many early records for Washington County were lost due to courthouse fires. In all of the trips that I've made there, and in talking with other researchers who have gone there, the early dates for some of those records aren't entirely accurate. If there are court records or court minutes from the dates shown above, then we have no idea where they are. The NC State Archives shows the same early years for some records, but I've not yet had the chance to visit the State Archive to look to see just how complete their holdings actually are.
