2016 Season - Call for Volunteers

Volunteers are invited to join the 2016 season of the Bir Madhkur Project. In 2016, the project will focus on excavating the bath/caravanserai at the site. We will also continue the archaeological, landscape survey of the environs of Bir Madhkur with special attention paid to mapping the ancient agricultural features and documenting the course of the ancient Spice Route through the region.

Full Season - June 16 – July 24 (tentative dates)

May 1, 2016 - Final payment of fees

Eligibility & Acceptance:

There are no special requirements for eligibility. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and in GOOD HEALTH.

Generally, volunteers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Because some funding opportunities for volunteers (see below) carry January or early February deadlines, early applications are encouraged.

The Dig Camp & Camp Life:

We will most likely be based in newly renovated housing units in the ancient village of Bir Madhkur, although a tented encampment is within the realm of possibilities. Dig Fee:

* Cost: $2500 (full season = 5 weeks)

Insurance:

Volunteers and staff must arrange for their own medical/accident insurance. Proof of insurance is REQUIRED of all applicants.

Travel Arrangements:

All international travel arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the applicant.
