YouTube / Flipped classroom videos: I generate videos before many lessons so that students can watch them the night before class, freeing up class time to work on problems, engage in discussion, and get help. See my YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/apethan.
ePortfolios: In my Statistics class, students are expected to create learning artifacts and project reflections that capture their learning. Each student creates an ePortfolio using Google Sites.
Moodle: In my Algebra 1 and 2 courses, I use Moodle for course management-- I post videos, solutions, and additional resources for students to use.
New free curriculum: In Statistics, I am developing a bookless course using my own problem sets/projects and free, openly-available resources. The curriculum is hosted on a public Google Site at www.mrpethan.com.
SMART Response: I use SMART handheld responders in class to gauge daily progress in Statistics and Algebra 1. I have also generated daily quizzes for use in Geometry.
Google Docs: I use Google Docs with my Statistics class to capture raw data and write team papers. Files are shared with the members of the team and me, allowing all students to work at the same time and allowing me to make comments on their work each day between classes.
Tablets: I facilitated the use of iPads and Droid Zoom tablets for projects using Google Docs and the production of application-focused videos.
iPods/PLDs: I allow students to use PLDs (personal learning devices, which include smart phones, iPods, and computers) in-class to watch videos or lookup solutions. I distribute the class set of iPods for students who do not own a PLD.
Screencasting: I asked students to use Jing, a free tool for recording screencasts, to record a video about an international dataset for Statistics. Students used Gapminder as their data visualization tool.
Geogebra: I created a Geogebra interactive tool for use with quadratics and use existing setups in Geometry.
Game Maker: I assisted a group of social studies students with a project to create a video game based on Roanoke Island.
