About us
History of Peter Pan Preschool Nursery
Peter Pan is a family run pre school nursery and was established in 1968 by Mrs Jean Mintram, the present owner's mother in her own home. The nursery opened with just eight children and two staff. The nursery gradually grew with the family home being extended to accommodate more children. In 1994 the nursery moved to its present home St Thomas church with parents and staff raising funds to add toilets and a kitchen to the old wooden and tin building which was originally built in 1901. It was at this point that the present owner, Mrs Sue Lewis and her mother became partners and ran the nursery together.
Jean Mintram retired in 2002 and Sue Lewis now owns and manages the nursery. In 2015 the nursery changed its name and logo to Peter Pan Nursery and Forest School. During the summer of 2016 Mr and Mrs Lewis built a log cabin in the grounds. Peter Pan caters for twenty children per session and employs 9 staff.

Learning
Young children learn most effectively through play, exploration and
investigation and at Peter Pan we foster children's natural excitement and interest in the world around them through innovative and stimulating activities alongside those that are more familiar. Children are encouraged to become independent both in self care and their choice of activities and staff are skilled at assessing where the children are in their learning and development and supporting their next steps on their learning journey. Much of the children's learning will take place outdoors in the large and well equipped woodland garden.
Our Aim
Our policy at the Peter Pan Nursery is to provide learning through play in a caring and stimulating environment. We aim to provide equal opportunities for all, adults and children alike, not discriminating against gender, race or ability. To allow each individual to develop at their own pace with kindness, encouragement and praise.
At Peter Pan, as with most other nurseries and preschools catering for children under five, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
