University of Manchester (1968-71): Mathematics

The most impressive teacher in Manchester then was J. Frank Adams -- scary but brilliant. Bizarrely in view of my later path, I preferred computing and numerical analysis to logic. I caught up a bit later on. My favourite pure subject was topology, probably because it was taught so well. Young lecturers then whom I have come to know since include Peter Aczel and Jeff Paris.
