Canary Islands

The Canary archipelago is a worldwide hotspot in conservation of biodiversity. Since 1998, we work on a long-term project with the monitoring of the local population of "guirres", an endemic subspecies of Egyptian vulture described in 2002 that subsists in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. In addition to aspects of population ecology and conservation of the target species, the project have allowed us to deep into aspects related to island evolution and biogeography.

Bardenas Reales

It is one of the most prominent steppe areas in northern Iberia where there are still little altered natural vegetation spaces. Important populations of birds of prey and steppe birds remain. For four decades we have been involved in the monitoring of endangered species, particularly vultures, also doing research on aspects applied to the management of the Natural Park, such as the evaluation of the impact of tourism.

Sierra de Cazorla

This Natural Park in Eastern Andalusia host an important project on movements of a top scavenger species (the griffon vulture) in relation to human uses such as game hunting and traditional grazing. In addition, thanks to collaborative projects with the administration, since 1991 our team has carried out key studies for the successful reintroduction of the bearded vulture in the Andalusian mountains.

Patagonia

From the Atlantic coasts to the Andean mountain range and the Pacific, and beginning in the early 1990s, we have developed multiple projects in collaboration with Argentine researchers. We have focused on the movement of large avian scavengers and on ecological and stable-isotope approaches to the trophic structure of marine and terrestrial bird and mammal communities.
