The Reason Why

Information Percolation was constructed out of necessity.

I’ve been on the developer/technical side of the IT industry for most of my career, and even though I’ve learned enough for a MBA, I haven’t had any successful attempts at it so I couldn’t call myself ‘a marketer’ yet (well, a newbie maybe)…but if I had to pinpoint the one single root-cause, of the majority of problems /many times expressed in frustration out of helplessness or even the extreme ‘snobbish I’m above technology attitude as a defense mechanism to preserve the state of laziness, inevitably to be sacrificed, were one to commit to the lifestyle of self-conditioned agility in the information age/ people are having on the Information Super Highway; … problems about – information!

What sort of problems could one have with all this information online… you ask?! Well, if you have to know – several! For one – it’s too muuuch! “Information Overload” might sound a bit sci-fi, but according to its core definition – it’s been a growingly popular social phenomenon now for near a decade or so. So, some say “it’s too much” for others – “not enough”, “it’s very useful”, “it’s useless spam”… one thing was surely being lacked massively – Information Quality.

It’s worthwhile to note here that there’s an innate quality of information that has let it slip without a universally defined, simply put Quality Standard. That quality is its mundane essence. Information is one of those words that we’ve been using since ‘day 1’ and somehow it’s very much out of accepted that one goes and looks into its definition. Other words of such mundane essence are ‘attention’ ‘laughter’ etc

Definitions, are a very powerful tool and those who can use it effectively leave the impressions of most learned and intelligent. Myself, for instance, finally broke myself down to accompany reading a book with a dictionary by my side, during a Mario Puzo novel. I believe it was “Last Don” or something mafiozo like that.

Anyways, aside from all the Godfather-style action-drama packed storyline, this book just like most other books of Mario Puzo was full of elaborately articulated phrases mostly through the use of very refined vocabulary. Many of those words were thrown in such scenes that you couldn’t ignore them. So I got a dictionary and got comfortable with the rest of “The last don”. Funny thing is though – I put the Last Don down a while back while the dictionary is still at my side pretty much every time I read.

The outcome achieved when a steady habit of using a dictionary and looking a word up, when you run across one we didn’t know, is a very effective method of learning… any concept. When you get to experience anything in a vivid frame of reference you get left with the impression of being much more akin to the experience. So: definitions!

And in order for me to fully equip you with all the paradigm shifts necessary to comprehend the necessity of Information Percolation being viewed as a whole system, a mindset I’d like to give one final (all right may be not, but for now at least) abstract representation of the essence of information, which I believe perfectly fits with the message at hand. And here goes:

Aside from specialty uses and other exotic applications, information for the most part can be briefly summed as ‘the representation of occurrences’. In other words – any and all occurrences, which reach our sphere of knowledge, get represented through… information. Here’s a question: Does this mean that information is conversely: ‘the blueprint of our reality’? I believe it does!

And having said that, allow me to return back to Information Percolation, or the mindset there of. Because that’s exactly what it is – a mindset! I could also call it ‘conditioning one’s self for agility in the information age’
