Membership
Dear Prospective Member(s):
We are looking for community minded individuals who are interested in supporting the Izaak Walton League of America’s national cause of clean water, air and land at the local level. We host annual and monthly fundraising events in which volunteers are needed. As a nonprofit service organization membership dues do not cover all of the expenses of our club. We depend on our members to volunteer their time at these events and if not able to assist, to at least attend and support our events.
Please read and answer ALL of the questions on the attached membership application. All prospective members MUST sign the application before submitting it. An incomplete application will be returned for completion. Any person who is at least 18 years of age, regardless of age, sex, race, or religious beliefs, and in sympathy with the objections of this chapter, may become a member by payment of prescribed dues, after their application has been approved and passed by the Board of Directors.
Initial dues plus the initiation fee for the first year is $145.00 for an individual membership and $175.00 for a family membership if paid before July 1. The fees, if paid on or after July 1 and before September 1, will be prorated as $109.00 for an individual and $122.75 for a family. The fees, if paid after September 1, will be charged a monthly fee for the months of September, October, November, and December at $10 for each month. Plus the fees for the following year’s membership with initiation fee must be included and submitted with the application ($145 individual and $175 family).
The membership year runs from January 1 to December 31. Please note that the membership is NOT a full year from when a prospective member joins.
Renewal fees are due by December 31, and at this time, it is $110.00 for an individual membership and $140.00 for a family membership. All amounts given are subject to change. Please make your check payable to Peoria Chapter, IWLA. The main difference between the two types of memberships is that with a family membership, a spouse or significant other would have voting rights at the General membership meetings and would be able to fish on their own. With an individual membership, the spouse or significant other could only fish while the individual member was present . Members may bring guests to fish. However, if the member leaves the premises, the guest must also leave, and guests are “catch and release only”. No hunting is allowed.. Only electric motors are permitted on the lakes. Boats may be used on the lake but must be removed from the grounds and not stored at the club. Any damage to grounds by members or guests must be paid for by the member. Fishing is by pole and line only. Only one membership fish limit per week is allowed which is posted on a pole by the lake and must be followed. Every member must abide by all State fishing regulations. This means you will need a fishing license if required by the State of Illinois. Membership placards must be displayed on the dashboard or on the windshield when fishing. Picnic grounds must be kept clean. No fires are allowed under the shelter except for grills. Mutilation of trees, shrubs, or club property is absolutely forbidden. No swimming in the lake.. Animals are not allowed in the club house. Camping spot rentals will be to members only for a fee. Civic clubs may be granted permission to camp per board approval. The use or lease of any club property must be approved by the Board.
After your application and fees are received, your application will be forwarded to the Board of Directors to be voted on for approval at the next Board of Directors meeting which is held the 1st Tuesday of each month at 6 pm. Once approved and processed through the National Headquarters, you will receive your membership card, instructions to access the building along with your security access code to gain entry into the clubhouse.
Once you receive your letter that your membership application has been approved, we ask that new members attend the next Board of Directors meeting so you can be sworn in as a member of the Izaak Walton League of America, Inc.
