FRIA
FAA Recognized Identification Area
A FRIA is a defined geographic area where drones can be flown without Remote ID equipment. Both the drone and the pilot must be located within the FRIA's boundaries throughout the operation. In addition, the pilot of the drone must be able to see it at all times throughout the duration of the flight.
Note: If a drone is equipped with Standard Remote ID, it may not be disabled or shut off while flying in a FRIA.
The Peninsula Modeler's Association's FRIA was approved by the FAA on January 4, 2024. The approved FRIA area is defined below. Additional information concerning FRIAs and Remote ID requirements can be found at the following links.

Operations are authorized from the surface up to and including 400 feet Above Ground Level (AGL).
Operations are prohibited:
Between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight.
When the ceiling at the Kenai Airport is less than 1000 feet and/or the visibility is less than 3 statute miles.
Any time operation is contrary to safety as determined by the Kenai Tower or the Kenai Airport Manger.
