What are Family Resource Centre's and what do they offer? To begin with, we believe that children are our greatest resource and that the community as a whole shares in the responsibility to support families. As grassroots community organizations, we strive for community partnership and collaboration to strengthen family support and to avoid duplication with those supports already in place.
We recognize the need for relevant programming and services for children and their families and strive to offer such programming in a warm, friendly, supportive and safe environment where families can play together, gain new skills, share ideas and meet new friends.
We offer a continuum of support including child development and parenting programs, early childhood education training, prenatal & postnatal programs, breastfeeding support, healthy living programs, resource lending libraries, partnering with the in-home visiting program Best Start, referral services as well as many other support services.
There are seven Family Resource Centres located across PEI. In addition to the main centres there are also numerous outreach locations associated with each centre. The resource centres are funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada under the Community Action Program for Children and the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program. Please click one of the links on the left-hand side to find out more about a resource centre near you or click on the directory link for a list of the resource centres and contact information.
We look forward to meeting you and your family!
