Tutorial for Internet Chat Room Meetings

Tutorial for Internet Chat Room Meetings

Paul McClintock, CP-T

There are many ways to meet online, but this tutorial will guide your group to a simple, free way to do so. It is followed by a sample meeting transcript.

1. Pick a name for your chat room, say chapter99 for AIP chapter #99.

2. Using the internet, go to www.mibbit.com/chat/. Select SlashNET.org for the network, enter #chapter99 for the channel, and enter your name with no spaces or non-letters for the nick or nickname. Click Go or Connect. Then WAIT. It will often take you to another screen that looks like you should type in login information (again), but don't. Just wait, up to 60 seconds. It should eventually take you to the #chapter99 chat room.

3. The chat room has a right-side list of people in the chat room, listed by “nickname.” At the bottom of the screen is a one-line high text box where you type a message, and when you press you Enter key, it posts your message in the chat room big text box above the message entry box. It posts it along with others’ messages, each prefaced by the time and the posting person’s nickname.

4. To leave the meeting, just close the internet browser, or at least the tab.
