Communications and Privacy

Communications

Email addresses will not be sent out to the group without the owner's consent.

Communications to the group from group moderators will be relevant to the immediate neighborhood, not to JP or Boston, i.e.

    • meeting notices and minutes of meetings
    • events of special interest local to the street
    • crime bulletins that are relevant to the street

People who are members of the group can also start and participate in discussions. These discussions should also be relevant to the immediate neighborhood. They should also follow these guidelines:

    • Keep discussions polite
    • Please check the accuracy of what you post, avoid hearsay and gossip
    • If an incident occurs, include as much detail as you can
    • Do not make assumptions about other people based on race or gender, etc
    • Do not accuse neighbors of wrong or illegal behaviour, there are other places for dispute resolution

The moderators of the group reserve the right to remove posts that are not appropriate, respectful, or inflamatory, and to remove members from the group who continue to be disruptive.

Members can control the level of emails they receive, and can leave the group at any time.

Privacy

The group communication is usually through the Google group. Google group security and privacy applies.

A separate list is maintained by the moderator with additional information. This list consists of names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails. It will not be used to promulgate other organization events or offers or causes, unless they are local to the street and relevant to community building and street safety. It is kept on a computer that is password protected. If we decide to maintain a phone tree, then the information will only be distributed to the members on the phone tree with their permission. It is every member's responsibility to destroy old lists and to refrain from using information that is no longer public.
