Currently, our school district is facing a $13 million deficit, representing 10% of the annual operating budget. One proposal is to increase the Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) at all school levels, including elementary schools; this would increase class sizes. Additionally, the current Base Student Allocation (BSA) at the state level has increased only $30 since 2017. To account for inflation, the BSA would need to increase by more than $1400.

Contact our Kenai Peninsula legislators to advocate for a substantial and needed increase to the Base Student Allocation (BSA).
Some bullet points to consider including in your emails/phone calls:
Support a substantial and needed increase to the BSA (around $1400 would meet inflation statewide) to support strong schools.
State funding should keep pace with inflation.
Kids need stability in school. Adequate funding reduces staff turnover.
Adequate school funding supports economic growth in Alaska.
