See How Easy the Metric System Is!

vs
Dark Ages (U.S. Customary) Measures
Did you know that Thomas Jefferson, our third president advocated going metric?
.. Yes, He convinced the then Congress to adopt the decimal coinage system we have today.
We discarded the old English Sterling system:
4 farthings = 1 penny
2 ha'pennies = 1 penny
1 shilling = 12 pence (pennies)
1 pound (also 1 quid) = 20 shillings or 240 pennies
Extremely Cumbersome?
But today, we still use old English measures:
1 foot = 12 inches
1 yard = 3 feet or 36 inches
1 fathom = 2 yards or 6 feet or 72 inches
1 mile = 5280 feet or 1760 yards or 63360 inches
Extremely Cumbersome?
We also use a decimal money system.
1 dollar = 100 cents
Simple!
Now, Look at the Metric system:
1 meter = 1000 millimeters
1 kilometer = 1000 meters
Simple!
Watch this example of how complicated the customary U.S. system is.
Now if only they used millimeters, they could have solved the problem in 2 seconds!
Why will America benefit by using metric?
1. Productivity will be improved using much easier to calculate metric measurements over cumbersome fractions, inches, feet, yards, etc. More accurate measures will enable better products.
2. Standardization of product sizes with the rest of the world will make items more interchangeable with those produced in other countries.
3. Enhanced trade will greatly reduce the terrible trade deficit.
4. Many lost jobs will come back home to America.
