laptop
ThinkPad IBM T22
1. Format: FAT32 on Win 2000 PC
2. Fdisk/status using win98 floppy make sure partition is active.
3. Repeat the "SYS C:" step using win98 floppy to make the new partition bootable
command attrib
[convert to NTFS later ]
Then return the drive to the host and format the drive as FAT32. (DO NOT format as NTFS.)
??Run Windows XP rescue disk ??< xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" prefix="o" namespace="">
--------------------
I'll post the steps I used (and didn't use), might help someone with the same problem I had later on.
1. Format a Floppy as a dos boot up disk.
2. Download and install Hp usb disk storage tool
3. Place notebook drive in usb enclosure and use the hp tool to format as a Fat32 or NTFS and using Dos system files located on your floppy
4. copy over the i386 folder from the windows install cd to the hard drive.
5. Pop back in the hard drive in the notebook and boot it up.
6. type at the cmd prompt cd i386
7. then type winnt to start the installation routine
8. Follow the instructions on screen. It will take a long time for these steps to be completed since smartdrive ins't running.
9.Do not format the drive you select to install windows on !
You will need to take the laptop drive out, put it in a drive cage connected to a pc.
Copy the w2k cd contents to the drive.
Put the drive back in the laptop. Boot up and run winnt from the i386 folder to start install.
Your big concern is you need the laptop 2000 drivers which will need to be on the drive also.
