Direct evidence of Cooksonia pertonii from Ireland (Edwards et al., 1983).
Charcoal from early Homerian strata at Rumney, Wales, is the earliest record of fire on Earth ~430 Ma (Glasspool & Gastaldo 2022)
The frequency of charcoal data indicates that fires were not rare, but an established part of the terrestrial biome from at least the Wenlock onward.
