The study of paleontology and evolution of birds in Moscow began in 1964 and is tightly associated with Evgeny Kurochkin.
Cabinet of Paleornithology is a small unit which was created in 2012 in the Borissiak Paleontological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (PIN) specially to promote paleornithological research.
The Cabinets houses thouthands of fossil bird remains and Kurochkin's osteological collection of extant bird.
All students of avian paleontology and evolution are welcome to use the Cabinet's collections.
