I have always enjoyed the loose, transparent, and emotional elements of watercolors, but was always the observer rather than the creator. My artistic spirit was developed and refined as a musician, but when I was asked by my public-school students what I would do when I retired, I responded, "I've always wanted to learn to watercolor." And so began a new artistic outlet for this late bloomer. Books have given me many ideas and training pieces to work on, and my two artist sons have given critique and support.
