"Be Fast... or Look Good Trying"
The pinewood derby is one of the most popular and successful family activities in Cub Scouting. Pinewood derby cars are small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families. Then they race the cars in competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track. Every boy can design and build his own "grand prix" car to enter in the race.
The Scout Derby - with the top 4 fastest cars from each Packs derby race. Awards for top 4 racers overall
The Car Show - All cars will be entered into a car show contest. Awards for: Best in Show, Best Paint Job, Scouts Favorite
The Open Scout Class Derby - Any Scout can enter their own cars for some just for fun racing.
The Outlaw Derby - This class is open to anyone and cars only need to adhere to the size limits and a 10 oz weight limit.
Lego Derby - A second track will be set up for just for fun lego derby racing by donation. Anyone can donate, build, and race a car. Legos and car bases will be provided for use by Pack 72.
The Derby is about doing one's best and having fun, so all child participants will be recognized. But that doesn't mean our race winners won't take home some shiny hardware. Awards will be given to racers in places 1-4 and for Best Sportsmanship in addition to Car Show Design Categories.
Cars registered in Scout division are to be reposessed by Pack leadership A.S.A.P after registration of said scout. Cars must have been built and raced in a 2026 season Pack level pinewood derby and not been built or raced in a previous year.
Cars only registered in Car Show Division, Open Scout Class, or Outlaw Class can be previously buil and/or raced.
In order to keep this as fair and fun as possible, you have to have rules. Rules apply to ALL Divisions.
