Wearing the Uniform
In general, every Cub Scout should wear his uniform to all Cub Scouting activities, including den and pack meetings, unit outings, and any activities done with members of the den or pack.
Pack leaders will provide advance notice of any occasion when the boys should wear anything other than the complete uniform.
Cub scouts buy their own uniform shirt, cap, neckerchief, slide and belt, including council patch, world scout emblem, and pack and den numerals. The pack provides earned rank badges and awards. Any leader or the BSA insignia guide can help show you where to put the patches.
Tiger, Wolf and Bear Cubs use the blue Cub Scout uniform, while Webelos can choose either to wear the blue Cub Scout uniform or to wear the tan Boy Scout uniform shirt. The person in the store can help you buy the right pieces including the right color for the neckerchief, cap and slide. Most scouts prefer the short sleeve uniform. It's easier to layer in the winter than endure long sleeves in summer.
Diverging from the official BSA policy, Pack 118 currently accepts any dark blue pants, including blue jeans, with the blue Cub Scout uniform. The pack does expect scouts to maintain a neat appearance with shirts tucked in.
Uniforms can be purchased at the Council store in Milford, CT (approximately $45 without trousers), the Greenwich Council store in Greenwich, CT or several local retailers such as Rankin Sporting Goods in Danbury, CT. They can also be purchased from scoutstuff.org, BSA's online store. We also have a small exchange for used uniforms. Consider giving outgrown uniform components such as hats and neckerchiefs to our exchange.
Any time you are uncertain about uniform regulations, ask any leader for guidance.
