5th East-Asia School and Workshop on Laboratory, Space, and Astrophysical plasmas will be held in APCTP (https://www.apctp.org/plan.php/eastplasma2015), POSTECH, Korea during August 17 to 22, 2015.
Overview
Plasma physical processes play an important role in various laboratory, space, and astrophysical environments, including fusion experiment, Earth magnetosphere, Sun, interstellar medium, and intergalactic medium. This summer school intends to 1) introduce basic physics of laboratory, space, and astrophysical plasmas and provide training to young scientists; 2) bring scientists from laboratory physics, space physics, and astrophysics together and exchange ideas and latest results; 3) foster future collaborations especially in the East-Asian region and also around the world.
An important consideration is to keep the School lectures at relatively entry level, given the fact that many students are probably not very familiar with all these topics. We choose two lecture formats: (1) in-depth lecture where the lecturer can have enough time to cover the material in relative depth, and (2) basic lecture where the lecturer can keep the content at the basic level so that students can benefit the most. We also encourage lecturers to assign small amount of homework (with answers) so that students can work on them at breaks and nights.
Topics
The topics will include:
1. Reconnection
2. Turbulence
3. Dynamo
4. Momentum transport
5. Wave-particle interaction
6. Plasma physics in geomagnetoshpere
7. Shocks and particle acceleration
8. MHD, PIC, GK codes
