OUTSIDE IN is a non-profit, community-based organization established in 1995 to bring free, live, professional music, dance and other artistic presentations to people who are confined in shelters, residential treatment facilities, correctional facilities, and nursing homes in New Mexico and who do not otherwise have access to the Arts.

Our mission is to alleviate suffering, lift the spirits, and ease the loneliness and sense of abandonment that is so common among confined and institutionalized populations, through access to the performing arts by providing a continuous series of live performances and presentations. We also seek to educate, inspire and empower troubled and high-risk youth by offering them continuous arts workshops and instruction.

A major focus of Outside In is our Youth With Promise program, which offers weekly art, music and dance educational workshops for high-risk youth, juvenile offenders, and other underserved youth.

NEWS FROM SANTA FE BANDSTAND
We just had to take one more opportunity to say THANKS to the readers of the Santa Fe Reporter for voting us "Best Community Event" in 2013. We couldn't agree more!  But there's no rest for the weary, as we're already hard at work on plans for the 2014 season.  The upcoming lineup will be announced next month and it promises to be as musically diverse and as high-quality as ever. Some of the exciting new changes for the
upcoming season include expanding the season from nine weeks to ten, bringing Santa Fe's hottest food trucks to the Plaza on
selected nights, and for the first time ever, taking Bandstand programming to the Plaza Contenta stage on Santa Fe's fast-growing southside! Check the Bandstand website for more info.

OUTSIDE IN WELCOMES TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Outside In was pleased to welcome two new members to our board this year. Sarah Leschtwho was married to Outside In's David Lescht, brings a wealth of institutional knowledge about David's vision for Outside In and Santa Fe Bandstand. Patrick Noble wrote his undergraduate ethnomusicology thesis at Harvard on the popular Cuban music genre known as Timba.  Patrick's vast knowledge of the contemporary music scene is an important addition to the board lineup. Welcome, Sarah and Patrick!

ANNUAL FUNDING APPEAL
According to a recent article by Forbes Magazine editor Randall Lane, we're currently living through a second golden age of philanthropy. "Governments no longer seem capable of executing big ideas. Ditto for major corporations. It's left to entrepreneurial capitalism to innovate. Modern-day philanthropy substitutes public good for profits in instances where there's not yet an economic interest to do the right thing."

In today's world, the real heroes of giving are not the modern day Carnegies or Rockefellers, who win awards for giving a relatively small percentage of their wealth.  It's the middle class families that give a small portion of their income to non-profits and charities within their community and do so without a million dollar safety net.  They give out of compassion for the needs of others, not out of an abundance of wealth.  Exactly the kind of support that's kept Outside In going strong for the past nineteen years.

As you make your end-of-the-year charitable giving plans, we hope you'll keep the spirit of modern-day philanthropy in mind and support the ongoing work of Outside In.
