23rd Annual Trivia Power Rankings
Another year, another LONG drive to Point for me to join in. Every year on the drive I question my sanity, but once the contest gets rolling that all goes away (eventually). It really is worth it to play this crazy game that allows us to forget the world for a long weekend, have fun with friends we may seldom see, and just, for a minute, relax. This marks the 23rd Annual* Trivia Power Rankings. Second contest written by DAC and Alex, and they are definitely starting to hit their stride and really making it awesome. The questions ranged from easy to ridiculous, with all the fun and frustration each entail. Always good when you can experience all the highs and lows in the same hour! The rankings have seen a small amount of change, but the top teams have mostly held their places, with Dad's Computers accomplishing the four-peat (and posting the LOWEST TPR score ever calculated in 23 years of this!), Festivus again slotting in 2nd, and Fursuit still coming in 3rd. Dad's lead has grown to 0.663, but the gap between Festivus and Fursuit is down to 0.105. Lactation is still holding on to 4th, and UUU overtook Network for 5th.
Dad's is now in position, with just 1 more consecutive victory, to see a "perfect" TPR score of 0.4567. [The previous lowest TPR score posted was by Network in 2011 with a score of 0.4985].
A few teams disappeared from the list again this year, but I was also able to add a few teams either back in because y'all reached out and let me know your name change history, or let me know you'd finally been playing at least 5 years (please keep doing that!). We're at about 130 teams being tracked (meaning they have been playing with approximately the same name for at least 5 years). I'm fairly sure there are still more than a few teams who could have a score listed but don't (if I find the time, I'll try to track you down), but as a reminder, it takes 5 years of data to generate the first score. If you have been playing 5 or more years with a name I can't trace (or was unable to trace this time around), or just haven't traced, let me know, and I'll do my best to get you added. Anyway, here are the numbers. 2024 scores & places used came from the trivia website. If you disagree, please email (otistrivia@gmail.com) and we can discuss a better method.
Like the BCS (or golf), the lower your score, the better you are...or at least that's what the math says. I used data from the 2019-2024 contests (excluding the 2020 EiT), so, if your team didn't play all 5 years, or if I couldn't figure out your name changes from year to year, or I just didn't get around to tracing your history, you aren't listed. If you'd like to be included in this TPR, email me (otistrivia@gmail.com) your team names/places from the 2019 & 2021-2024 contests, and I will be happy to make the changes.
