A family biography written in 1958 by Albert ORTON, (son of Thomas, grandson of Joe ORTON & Anne Jane BROTHERSON), says that Joseph ORTON took possession in 1862, of 100 acres in Medonte Township, Simcoe County being Concession 12 Lot 14 & 15. This paper was written for the local Grenard Women's Institute, and is called "History of Orton-Brae Farm".
First a log home was built on this homestead. Later a very fine stone home was built.
It is still standing and can be seen from Highway 12 about 3 miles South of Coldwater.
