OPC's Subsidiaries
OPC currently owns two companies in Ghana, GC Resources Limited & GC Purchasing Limited, both of which are fully owned subsidiaries of OPC (Canada) with the offices being located in Accra, Ghana. OPC’s subsidiaries are headed up by OPC’s Executive Vice President Mr. Augustus Tanoh, and assisted by Mr. Robert Ellis, Chief Operating Officer of GC Resources Limited.
Overview
OPC, through GC Resources Ltd, has secured a licensing agreement that grants OPC exclusive rights to manufacture and sell potassium carbonate using a patented process which converts the ash of cocoa husks, and other organic waste materials into potassium carbonate that is 99%+ in purity. The potassium carbonate produced via the licensed patented process does not require additional expensive chemically & electrolytically induced process’s in order to achieve its 99%+ purity. This process represents a global industry first.
Current Developments
GC Resources Limited, serves as the operating arm for OPC in Ghana. Currently, GC Resources is establishing the logistics & agricultural waste supply network with the cocoa farmers of Ghana and private supply companies as part of its development. GC Resources is also heading up the procurement of engineer’s and equipment suppliers for the development of OPC’s/GC Resources Takoradi processing plant.
By the end of Q1- 2012, GC Resources had successfully secured a 99 year lease agreement for land that will be used to construct OPC’s Takoradi processing facility. GC Resources has also established two supplier “start-up zones,” which contain an inventory of over 100,000 metric tons of husk. The company had completed the manufacturing of 131 portable Ashing units which have been installed in the “start-up zones” to convert the cocoa husks into ash. J&P Engineering Ltd. (a highly regarded engineering and fabrication firm) has been engaged by GC Resources to develop OPC’s “K2” prototype processing plant.
The K2 mini-plant has now been completed and has produced its first batch of potassium carbonate that has been confirmed by SGS “the industry leader in verification and testing services,” as being 99%+ in purity. Our potassium carbonate originates from organic waste and does not have traces of heavy metal associated with mined potassium carbonate (i.e. lead, nickel, arsenic).
