Table Definitions

This is a description of the primary tables within the LDR. Comments are also made as to how the columns map to their respective HL7 segments. The column mappings are summarized in the table grid and then below the table grid will be individual sections for columns which need more explanations for example values or notes for vendors who will be responsible for populating the HL7 message.

Flexibility

The table design takes into consideration the need to receive data from many different sources without requiring the data be coded to some standdard. If the LIMS provider does not have all of their tests and results codified to a standard (e.g. LOINC) the data can still be stored in the columns identified as data being provided directly from a LIMS (the raw LIMS data). The organization managing the OpenLDR can then decide where to put efforts towards standardization; whether it be with helping the LIMS vendors codify their data or whether they want to write a codification process themselves.
