1830s Josiah and Daniel Jex sons of a Norfolk Miller travel to Belize to make their fortune

1835 Josiah and Daniel Jex Found their business (importing and supplying goods – food etc) to plantations in Belize.

1837 Daniel Jex his father is still a miller at Hampstead Mill.

1843 William Jex, Josiah and Daniel’s brother travels to join them in Belize

1850 US NewYork Census mentions Edward 5,Bella 4, Willis 2, Wm 14, Josiah 30, Isabella 28,, Ada 10 and Emily 8

1852 Josiah becomes a naturalised US Citizen

1853 John their brother has joined them by now and age 32 travels from Belize to New Orleans

1858 William age 41 travels from Belize to New York

1862 Josiah is assessed for tax

IRS tax assessment for Josiah Jex 1862-1864

residing 98 W 21st Street valued at 1360.00 with 3% tax - Income Tax 40.80 M603 Nara Roll 63

in 1863 he had carriages 3 one horse valued at 75.00 and 1 two horse valued at 300 with tax due on them of 7.00

1866 Daniel travelled to Belize on SS Extract this ship also carried confederate veterans to a new life

1871 Daniel and his wife Brunette now residing 2 Hanover Cres Brighton UK

1880 US census mentions Edward married to Mabel Overmann, Ada 6months living with Overmann family in New York, and John living with De Longhi (business colleague) in Brooklyn

1882 Josiah retires and passes business to nephew William

1885 Business dissolved
