Info on County/ State Sectional Courses over the Years
Times prior to 1979 aren't on the All-Time Lists because Garret was a 2.8 mile course up to that point, Darlington didn't exist yet, and the Holmdel course was run backwards until then. Holmdel Park in Monmouth County has been the site of NJSIAA Championship Meets and Invitationals for decades but is usually only raced on by Old Tappan once or twice a year. Most major 5K non-dual meets occurred at Garret Mountain in Woodland Park, Passaic County, NJ (perennially the NJSIAA North 1 Group 3 Sectional Course) before the 1990's when Darlington County Park of Mahwah was also introduced as a 5K Course and began to accommodate Bergen County meets and some invitationals. Therefore, Darlington records only date from the 90's on, and the first years the course was run, it was done backwards. The N.B.I.L. Meet was always held at Northern Valley Demarest High School until the early 2000's. Starting in the 2000's, dual meets were no longer held on high school courses and now occur at either Darlington or Garret. Darlington County Park remains the home of Bergen County Cross Country, and Garret Mountain, now a much more polished course, is still the annual location of Sectionals, although the inclement weather of past years has caused relocating on two separate occasions: (1) In 2011, Superstorm Nemo caused extreme damage to the Garret Mountain course, so the North 1 races for NJSIAA Sectionals were held at Thompson Park, home of the annual Central Meet that happens on the same weekend. This was the first time an NVOT raced here. (2) In 2012, Hurricane Sandy severely damaged all major North Jersey cross country courses, so the North 1 and North 2 were held at Greystone Park, also known as the Central Park of Morris County. This was the first time NVOT raced here as well. In 2008, the Garret course was cut short, and in 2020, the Darlington course was cut short, so times from these years haven't been added.
