About

Who We Are

Okaloosa County Music Teachers Association is an organization put together to support local music teachers. When joining OCMTA, you will simultaneously become a member of three different organizations: Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Florida State Music Teachers Association (FSMTA), and Okaloosa County Music Teachers Association (OCMTA). Membership in OCMTA and its affiliate organizations provides master classes, student recitals, sessions on studio practices, judging, and workshops. Regular meetings and programs where we exchange fresh ideas and information with informed colleagues are also put together. Becoming a member of OCMTA will provide the opportunity to attend district, state, divisional and national conventions. All members may participate in the activities of the association, attend its meetings and receive its publications (Florida Music Teacher and American Music Teacher). With these and other opportunities at your fingertips, we invite you to come and join us in a rewarding professional association.

We have five membership classifications:

  • Active- open to professional music teachers whose qualifications meet the standards and requirements as set forth in the bylaws.

  • Provisional- open to music teachers who do not meet all the requirements for active membership. Provisionals are given a five-year period in which to become eligible.

  • Associate- open to non-teachers (music dealers, performers, music patrons who support the program of the Association).

  • Student- open to college students through age twenty-six who are majoring in music. Students above the age of twenty-six may qualify for a period of up to four years.

  • Honorary- may be conferred by the association upon an active member who has "outstandingly served the association."
