This rare photograph shows a pilot ejecting from a malfunctioning F-16 fighter aircraft seconds before it crashed. You can see the canopy above the pilot (the pilot survived with minimal injuries). The photo, a still from a video, was taken at a 2003 airshow in Idaho. The ACES-II ejection seat utilizes a complex control system to maintain the pilot attitude, eject fast enough without killing the pilot (normal force levels can be in excess of 12g's) and deploy the parachute. The attitude control system was designed with EASY5.You can learn more about ACES-II at http://www.ejectionsite.com/acesiitech.htm and see the full video of this incident at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alo_XWCqNUQ.
