Message from NW District Director

Northwest District News from your Director:

August 2021

Greetings to AFGC Members of the Northwest District,

We are at the beginning of a new season for Northwest District Garden Clubs.  Many clubs have new officers coming onboard to assist in continuing our theme of “Growing and Learning Together”.  Times of Covid have demanded our need to truly focus on this theme.

Our District has lost three garden clubs in the past couple of years.   With good remembrances and a sad goodbye, we wish the very best to members of Russellville’s Hoe and Hope Garden Club, Conway Garden Club and Conway’s Town and Country Garden Club, who have recently disbanded.

We should be headed in the other direction.  There is such a need today to find a way to keep our clubs vibrant /always recruiting and continually adding new members.  Please let me assist you with any needs you might have in meeting these goals.  Whether we meet in person or Zoom until Covid conditions improve, let us continue meeting, provide good programs and encourage one another.  We also could sponsor the formation of a new garden club – not hard at all.  Ask me.

As we “Grow and Learn Together”, let us strive the next two years to not only grow in membership, but grow in learning.  Let us find a way to improve our technology skills to enhance our Northwest District Website.  Presently, we have only two clubs that have a link directly to their websites on our NWDistrictAFGC website.  Possibilities are:

 1) creating your club’s website that could be linked

 2) creating your Facebook page that could be linked

 3) If those are not possibilities for your club, you can send information, updates and

pictures to Geri Hoerner, our web guru, (hoerner72 @gmail.com) for a Club Page.

Please take time to check out our district web site, as she has done tremendous job.

I too, will be learning with you as I am lacking in technology skills.  My first growth experience will be in setting up our District Zoom Meeting.  Let’s make it a great success story and as I learn, all you need to do is call and I will happily share what I have learned.

As you may have guessed, our Northwest District Meeting planned for October 5, 2021 will be a Zoom Meeting and will be hosted by Dardanelle Garden Club.  More information and a Registration Form will be sent in the near future.   Our program speaker will present on "Waterfalls of Arkansas".  Looking forward to an exciting meeting.

Hope to see you next week, August 23-24, at the AFGC  2021 Mid -Year Board  Meeting in Little Rock at the Delta Hotel.  You still have time to send your registration in – form is in  the June edition of The Arkansas Gardener newsletter.  I plan on being there both days.  Please take a moment to introduce yourself to me if we have not met.  Any Presidents who cannot attend, I will pick up your President’s Packet and mail it to you.

Best regards for a great Garden Club year.  As always, I appreciate your commitment to AFGC.

August 2019

As a retired elementary educator of 37 years, I value the never ceasing ability to learn and the investment we can make for future generations. Let us learn together this year as we promote each garden club of the Northwest District.  Let us be active and grow in membership.  Let us be progressive as we sponsor new garden clubs in our Northwest District.

Let us keep to heart this quote:  “The glory of gardening:  hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature.  To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.”

To grow and plant new garden clubs is to believe in tomorrow.  We will learn together.
