FeederWatch

FeederWatch is a November-April survey of birds that visit backyards, nature centers, community areas, and other locales in North America. Participants track what is happening to birds around their homes and contribute their observations to a continental data-set of bird distribution and abundance.

This fee-based service of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology allows our volunteers to do weekly citizen science work from home and other areas near them on their own schedules. Participants track birds and mammals that visit feeders, plantings, and water sources and report that data using the FeederWatch website or mobile app.

FeederWatch data provides a detailed picture of weekly changes in bird distribution and abundance across the United States and Canada during the winter months. This crucial information enables scientists to piece together the most accurate population maps.
