ORDER OF RACING: the first ten competitors in Division 1 will hold their places from the previous year, otherwise competitors will race within their allocated bands. For safety reasons, the number of entries in each division will be capped (priority given to paid entries).
MASTERS' EVENTS: if there are two or more entries in an age category for a particular class of boat then a trophy will be awarded to the fastest crew in the category. On the other hand, if there's only a single crew in an age category, then it will compete for the boat class’s “Headship On Handicap”, which is awarded to the fastest crew on handicapped time in that class of boat.
JUNIOR EVENTS: the organisers reserve the right to amalgamate Junior categories as appropriate to form a race, or to move to an appropriate Senior event.
BEGINNER EVENTS: all competitors in these events will have a PRI of 10 or less and have been rowing or sculling for up to three years. Please see the note below for more clarity.
PRESENTATION OF PRIZES will be in Nottingham & Union Rowing Club after each division. Prizes will only be awarded for an event when at least two crews actually race (except for 'masters headships' as above).
Notes on Beginner events
We run Beginner events in order to provide meaningful competition for people who've only taken up the sport recently.
Although the PRI requirement for Beginners (<=10) can be checked in BROE, the date when someone took up rowing/sculling isn't available to us. We therefore have to rely on submitting administrators certifying on entry that Beginner entries meet the "<=3 year" criterion. For clarity, the clock starts ticking when someone joins a rowing club (any rowing club).
Competitors entered as a Beginner cannot also be entered in a non-Beginner event.
In 2022 we moved both the start and finish points downstream by about 1000 m in order to avoid a persistent patch of very shallow water. The course distance remains approximately 6000 m.
Division 2 now finishes above Trent Bridge for all boats, a change that was made on safety grounds. The long course is therefore shorter (by about 200 m) than the 'traditional' course that finished outside the clubs.
