5 Secrets Of Meditation

Make Your Meditation Powerful

Meditation is something that is often elusive to many western practitioners of yoga.

We have all seen the ancient images of Indian art, with yogis in meditation; or heard of those who have deep “experiences” while meditating.

Yet, for many, those concepts remain remote and detached from our everyday lives.

So how do we change that? What’s the difference between those that have regular deep experiences in meditation, and those that seem to not really get anything out of it?

The difference is so simple, it may shock you.

The Secrets

Meditation, in of itself, is a practice of simplicity.

Though its aim may be lofty (such as enlightenment), its methodology is at once simple…and challenging.

Lots of people have a crazy idea that you just sit down, close your eyes, and bam! You’re meditating.

But Meditation is concentration used to further our path on the road of spiritual awareness.

So how you do you deepen that connection?

1. Setting Intention

When I first started meditating, I was annoyed that it seemed I was hitting a wall. That is, I couldn’t get really deep. it was very frustrating. But then I read about the idea of prayer before meditation in order to set an intention.

After the first time I tried it, it seemed like meditation just flowed…it was so much easier. Since then I have never skipped that step.

By utilizing prayer or setting an intention, our minds are able to let go of the things we don’t need to hold unto. This goes a long way to keeping our mind in the moment and bringing us into much deeper states of consciousness during meditation.

2. Think with Intuition

When we sit down to meditate, the biggest obstacle is the mind.

The deeper the state of meditation, the less we’re attached to the concept of mind and identification with thoughts.

Random thoughts keep us tied to normal consciousness; that’s why we have to change that. Upon sitting down to meditate, if you can make a conscious decision to let go of your thoughts, your meditation will become tremendously impactful.

Try to shift away from words in your thoughts, and towards images or “feelings”. This will settle the mind and allow you to focus.

3. Cleanliness

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Cleanliness is next to godliness?” Having a space to meditate is extremely important; and keeping that space clean and purposed only for meditation even more so.

An unclean environment is like a small psychological disturbance that the mind picks up on.

That even extends to you too! Showers/baths can really help us to mentally relax.

4. Technique

When you first start meditating, you might look up different techniques to practice…and quickly find that there are a lot of them!

It’s almost overwhelming, actually.

It’s best to find something you relate to and stick to it for a while before moving onto something else. This is because if you change it constantly, there is little room for finding improvement or realizing if something works for you.

5. Lifestyle

This is probably the single most important aspect of creating deeper meditations.

When you live a wild and reckless life, your meditations are going to be harder. Conversely, if you live a calm life with healthy food, rest, and fulfilling relationships, it’ll be much easier to clear your mind and sit fro longer periods of time in meditation.

Conclusion

The most important thing regarding meditation is that you find what works for you and you do it on a consistent basis.

Meditation is challenging no matter who you are, but it gets easier when you practice the steps above.

So…what do you think? Do these work for you? Have you found anything else that could be added to the list?
