North Carolina
Overview of public safety agencies in North Carolina
fire services are provided by fire districts, towns, citys, maybe a couple of county FDs, military bases, industrial sites, State Forest Service, and some federal agencies (USFS + USFWS + NPS etc)
ambulance services are provided by local, regional, county rescue squads or county ambulance services - plus some military bases perhaps - there might not be a single FD ambulance in North Carolina - [note - atlantic beach has 2 FD als ambulances per https://atlanticbeach-nc.com/departments/fire-department/emergency-services/ - 5/16/2023 ] - some ambulance service might be provided by private ambulances under contract to cities or counties
police services are provided by ?towns, cities, county sheriffs, (and the State Highway Patrol who primarily patrols the interstate highways) - [possibly NC Highway Patrol handles all motor vehicle issues in all unincorporated areas - per https://www.rowancountync.gov/228/9-1-1-Division - 5/15/2023]
medevac service are provided by multiple private agencies - maybe both for profit and non profit
search and rescue services are provided by local, regipnal, and county rescue squads who have boats, ATVs, and ?skimobiles?
large racetracks might have their own fire, rescue, ambulance, and security units - and there might be a few industrial fire and emergency brigades also
private security forces and companys might protect larger buildings and housing sites - universities and colleges are typically protected by their own police forces
apparently the counties do not maintain any highways - highway mtnce is a responsibility of State DOT and town or city DPWs - 5/10/2023

looks like high quality info - updated in Sept 2022 - lists station numbers and county and fdid - couple of virginia Fds also listed - (1/6/2023 - this database has a quirk with FDs that have stations in more than 1 county - apparently it lists all of the stations as being in the county where the HQ station is located - and there is no indication that 1 or more of the stations are not in that county - Clarks Neck Sta 2 in Beaufort County is an example of this)
