Norma Mayer's Vocal Studio

The vocal studio of Norma Mayer is currently accepting students of all levels for voice lessons and vocal coaching. Lessons are available in the studio or remotely through the Internet.

Soprano Norma Mayer has performed extensively on the opera stages of Europe and the United States. Norma frequently performs vocal recitals and with chamber music groups. She has also taught voice and choral singing on many levels: from college to community school. She has been Assistant Professor of Music and Choir Director at Jarvis College, Adjunct Professor of Voice at the University of the Incarnate Word, Concordia University, Gavilan College, and California State University Monterey Bay, and has sung many roles on the opera stage. In addition, she has maintained private vocal studios in Austin, Texas, Monterey, California, and Paris, France.

Her students have continued into various fields using their voices and acting abilities. These include actors and singers in theater and opera companies. Others are working professionally in commercials, films, television and as voice-over actors. Some have chosen music therapy, speech pathology, and others work as voice teachers both privately and at the university level.


"Singing With Norma Vocal Technique" CDs are available from her studio or online at Bandcamp.com. CDs feature vocal exercises designed by Norma for soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone, or bass voices.

Her students have performed in the Texas Music Educators' All-District, All-Region, All-State Choirs, ACDA Regional Choirs, ACDA State Choirs, CMEA All-State Men's Chorus, and CMEA Regional Choirs. Students have been successful in various vocal competitions, including first place in the Texas Scholarship Foundation Competition, regional winner of the Classical Singer Vocal Competition, gold medal winner in the California State Solo and Ensemble Competition, first place in the Christina Townsend Vocal Competition, and vocal award winner of the Mondavi Young Artists Competition. Other student honors have included participation in 2008 Juilliard vocal master class, Interlochen Vocal Arts Academy, Oberlin Vocal Academy, Ezio Pinza Council for American Singers of Opera, Oberlin in Italy Program for Opera Singers, 2013 "A Grand Night For Singers" Encouragement Prize at Jarvis Conservatory, 2014 Fine Arts Award at Interlochen, and 2015 Carnegie Hall Honor Choir for High School Students. In 2017 talented students performed leading roles in community theaters, including Ragamuffin Theater and Monterey Peninsula high school theater productions. In 2018 outstanding students have been selected for the following: St. Olaf Theater Camp, Inspirare professional chorus, and Threshold Choir.

Other students have performed leading roles with Troupe Texas, Cincinnati Opera, San Francisco Opera, Cedar Rapids Opera Theater, Dell' Arte Opera Ensemble, and the Metropolitan Opera. Los Angeles Opera Chorus, San Francisco Opera Chorus, Austin Lyric Opera Chorus, Austin Lite Opera Ensemble, Austin Choral Union, Austin Civic Chorus, Esther's Follies, Gilbert & Sullivan Society, University of Texas Longhorn Singers, Sugar Jones, Pacific Repertory Theater, Camerata Singers, Monterey Peninsula Choral Society, Outdoor Forest Theater, Western Stage, El Teatro Campesino, Carmel Bach Festival Youth Chorus, Aria Women's Chorus, Monterey Live, MPC Theatre Company, Santa Cruz Symphony Chorus, Cantus, I Cantori di Carmel, USAF Tops in Blue, Opera Frontier, Mission City Opera, and Kuumbwa Jazz Center, as well as various high school choral and theatrical organizations have featured students from Norma's studio.

Her students have been invited to audition at many prestigious conservatories and university music schools, including the Julliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and USC Thornton School of Music, to name a few.

Her students have also received vocal scholarships from Eastman School of Music, New York University, Baylor University, Mary Hardin Baylor University, Southwest Texas State University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Boston Conservatory, Belmont University (Nashville, TN), the University of Alabama, Azusa Pacific University, Biola University, Hartnell College, and Sam Houston State University, to name a few. Other students have studied at Roosevelt University, Carnegie Mellon University, Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music, California State University Los Angeles, and Sacramento State University.
