Sustainable Farming. Our food system is broken. We are living on an petroleum based mono-culture that is not sustainable and results in E. coli in our spinach. There is a great deal of literature on this. The following are some starting points. Video, nice graphic article, another nice video, informative article. Can this be fixed? Does scale trump all? In-Vitro Meat. We first read about this in science fiction books, but it turns out this is becoming a very real thing. Meat grown in a petri dish using just a few cells (stem cells or myoblast - precursors to muscle) then mass produced. It can be done today, but it is expensive. Once they automated it and find cheaper growing agent it will proliferate. In twenty years this will be a reality. End of animal suffering and deleterious environmental effects, or another reason to continue an unethical practice? Read about it here (our new favorite magazine), here, and here.
