I'm writing on behalf of my father, Gordon Sheldon and at his request as he is not an email or PC user (yet).

He wonders if there are any old friends in your association that he served with.

He was a national serviceman in 1952-4 in Malaya, Driver in 11th Hussars B troop

He did basic in Carlisle in the 23rd intake and was breifly in Germany although most of the time was in Malaya based at Kuala Lumpur.

He came from Holbrook in Derbyshire, where he still lives today. He recalls two scottish comrades; John (Jock) Adamson and also John Nelson, who he remembered also came back with him to his home (my grandparents) during one leave.

If you can help with this trawl Gordon would be most grateful

Hi, is there anyone around who served with, or remembers, the RAF at either Terendak or Kuantan. We where a mobile radar unit (UPSI) IN 1964/65. At Terendak we were located on the hill (bukit) at the rear of the camp next to the resevoir, and where billet ed in the REME lines. At Kuantan were located on a hill (bukit) just outside Kuantan, after moving from Kuantan airfield (due to poor reception). There was a Canberra squadron based there at the time, 3 Squadron I think. If anyone was there or remembers it please get in touch. Couple of photos attached that may jog the memory.

Yours hopefully

I am hoping to contact anyone who served in 16 (Commonwealth) Field Ambulance RAMC/RAAMC between October 1964 and March 1967.

I can remember some names and faces but cannot always match them up.

The CO was Lt Col Donald Smith, the MO was Maj James Stewart, the MTO was Capt Smith RASC (then RCT); I can remember the re-badgeing parade on the MT park.

Of the lads there was Sgt Peter Darrington and Sgt Smith (Sukiyaki), ‘Nosher’ Wilson, ‘Weasel’ Davies and my late brother-in-law Bob ‘Geordie’ Brewis. Other names that spring to mind are John Scally, ‘Ginger’ Knowles, Alan Misselbach, Christopher ‘Daisy’ Root, the infamous, Tommy Irvine, Dave Turton, Keith Read, Johnny Jackett, Clem Persaud, Des Griffiths, Leon Boudoin, Pierre Ferrari, Sonny Marlow, and cooks Tony Farr, Mick Giles and Yorky (Brett).

Of the Aussies in 3 Section: Capt Boyd, WO2 Kermond, Cpl Barossa, ‘Blue’ Choppin, ‘Moto’ LeGrand and ‘Bunny’ Bunn.

There was ‘Goldie’ in the NAAFI and Stephen the Milky (was it Magnolia or Frazer and Neeve?)

In those days I was a brash 17 year old straight from boys’ service, who thought I knew it all but knew nothing, and like everyone at that age I was invincible and indestructible - or so I thought. I know better now!

I would be happy to hear from anyone who was there then and I apologise if I have spelled your name incorrectly.

My grandfather, Arthur William Edwards, has recently died and while we were going through some of his old photos we found some of a man, who was clearly a good friend for a number of years. We think he is called "Nobby" Clarke - 26 Medium Battery, Royal Artillery. We have also found a photo of our grandfather and some called Ironside, taken in Bombay 25th April 1943.

My grandfather served in Burma, Malaya, India, South Africa. He was a sergeant... but we would dearly like to hear from anyone who can tell us more.

Hi, I’m hoping to find the whereabouts of an old friend Dusty Millar/Miller. He was in the Jungle Warfare School in Johore, Malaysia sometimes in the ’60. I remember him as a very shy kind of guy, average height, slim and handsome. He left for England shortly after he met me, and I left for Kuala Lumpur a month after his departure. Years later I found out that he wrote me a letter, but said letter was never forwarded to me. I would like to find Dusty and tell him that I am sorry for not getting back to him and hope all is well with him. He can get in touch with me at l.werner23@gmail.com I have been living in the States for the last thirty odd years. Lisa Werner

I came across your website and am writing this in the hope that someone might just know a friend of ours my sister Candy and I. We met Clive Williams a.k.a Taffy who was serving in Rasah Camp, in Seremban, Malaysia between 1966 to 1968. We think he was in the Light Regiment. We believe he was serving in Sarawak before that, so he may have been with the 40th Light Regiment.. (not sure). We know the last four digits of his army number was 2200. Candy seems to recall his birthday as August 1946 or 1947. He had an older brother called Oliver and a sister named Julie. He also met and knew my ex-husband David Hughes who was also in the Army in those days but not is erving in the same unit. The friends Taffy used to "hang around " with in those days were Brian Eddy, George Welling, Fred Humphries, "Half Pint" Reynolds and Steve Marriott. They may all have been with the same regiment.

If anyone knows of his whereabouts please would they email me or call my mobile on 07904580233? We would dearly love to get in touch with Taffy.

Thank you.

My father, Major Denis O Faulkner QORWK, served in Malaya approx 1953/1955 and took some cine film which I have now had transferred onto DVD.

There are two jungle patrols featuring A company 1st Royal Hampshire Regiment in 1954. I also have a letter from a Sergeant J Wiles returning some 20 negatives of the patrol and would therefore like to contact him or anyone else in the patrol.

There is also a film of a Queens Birthday Parade in Malaya in 1954 although I cannot identify the various regiments taking part.

If any of these are of interest to anyone out there please could they contact me via webmaster as you suggest to avoid spam emails. I have today sent a copy of the DVD to The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum and the QORWK Museum.

Mrs Henrietta Taylor webmaster@nmbva.co.uk

I am delighted to at last be able to confirm that I am in touch with someone from the Royal Hampshire’s A Company who is in my father’s cine film of a jungle patrol taken in Malaya in May 1955. He has given me the names of all those in the film and I hope to contact the rest through him in the next month. It means a lot to me to have achieved this after first finding the cine films over two years ago. It has also been a pleasure to hear from others who had served there and for whom I understand the film has provided some happy memories.

help. I am searching for my great uncle, Frederick Walker Jackson who served

in the RASC, his last posting being in Malaya in 1948 where he was a

to family problems so I am desperate to know if he is still alive or to

learn any information I possibly can about him.

I am trying to find information on my biological father. Despite being able to trace him down in 1987, our contact was short-lived and he told me very little about himself.

He's Albert John Radcliffe HAYCOCK, known as "Rad" or "Raddie", born 21 Dec 1927 in Lambeth, Greater London. His father was John Walter Haycock, former teacher/Scots Guard (born 1901 Liverpool) and his mother Emily Esther Rosewell (1905 Shepperton). He has a brother James/Jim and a sister Sarah/Sally (?) both several years younger than him. Rad lived in The Netherlands as a young boy, and his brother Jim was born there.

My father once showed me a picture of the time he served with the RAF in Malaysia, which must have been somewhere between 1946-1948, as he was a young man still. He had green/brown eyes, chestnut hair, stood about 1.75 mtrs and was slight of build.

Character traits: feeling for languages (spoke Malaysian and Dutch), witty, intelligent, gift of the gab, and possibly a ladies man.

My 10 year old son Jim (his grandson, whom he knows nothing about) wants to know more about this elusive grandfather of his, as I do as well, and I'm trying to build a picture for him.

If anyone has info about, or remembers him from his time in Malaysia, please contact me!

With friendly greetings,

Kya Milo Fryslân, The Netherlands

HAROLD (HARRY) HESP. RAF MERGUI 1945 -1947

I am trying to find anyone who may remember my father who was a Medic with RAF at 69 STAGING POST, RAF STATION MERGUI, from 1945 - 1947. He is now 82 years old and it would delight him if I could manage to find anyone of his old comrades.

He was also known as 'Doc'. He has mentioned to me the names of Sgt. Chatterton, Flt. Lt. Thompson and Commanding Officer Alan Wood. He still has a letter from C.O.. Wood, and says he was the last Commanding Officer to leave Mergui.

Previous to being in Burma, my father was in the DD Landings and landed on Juno Beach with the Canadians. From there he went on through France to Belgium. For any old comrade who may remember my father, Harold (Harry - Doc) Hesp, please contact me on my email address. It would make his dream come true. Many thanks. Ann Wilkinson.

Hello. Finished my National Service in '55 after having spent a happy time with 11sqdn from Gillingham to Sungie Besi. Since then I've been in touch with a few of the lads, mainly Max Smart, my best friend until his death from cancer some years back. Chunky Allen phones occasionally, usually when he's pissed, and I met him, Jock McNally, Scrase, Keith Birchall, who lives a few miles away and Pete Field, who also died last year. Feel free to email any time. Terry Tullis.

I was wondering if there were any members who were with the 15/19 Hussars

and served in Malaya in the 50s ? if there is some one I would appreciate

hearing from them Frank

I'm in England but in the 1960s,my father was in the Royal Navy based at KD Malaya at the Woodlands Base in Singapore. He would like to contact an old shipmate he knew then but he only knew him as 'Poon'. I know Poon had a son called William and either a wife or child called Kim. In 1970,he would have been serving on K.D Rahmat. I know it's a long shot and Poon is probably a very common name there but I was wondering if you knew of any way I could possibly trace him? He would be about 70 now. My father is called Alan Tait and was a Chief Petty Officer at the time.

Thanks for your help.

Look forward to hearing from you.

WITH ALL THIS INFORMATION THERE MUST BE SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP DEBBIE

Hi,

Not a lot of information to go on but I live in hope -

I have been trying for some time now to try to locate the family of British serviceman by the name of JACKSON stationed in Malaysia – Penang / Butterworth) between 1966 – mid 1967.

Is it possible to find out what British Military Units would have been stationed there at the time ( to narrow the parameters of my search).

This fellow was married had a son Lee Jackson (born about 4 October 1958) and 2 younger daughters Carrie (1960) and Alley (about 1961).

They lived in Medan Tembaga, Island Park on Penang – the children all went to the Minden Barracks British School. Neighbour was another British serviceman by the name of Hopkins.

JACKSON had served in Germany and originated from around the Nottingham area.

My family were an Australian Army family stationed in Penang during the same period and we lived over the road. Would dearly love to make contact with the family again. Great friends and miss them to this day.

Anyone with any clues as to how I would go about tracking them – please let me know.

Much appreciation for ANY help.

I have managed to acquire some further information that may jog someone's memory. I happened on a familiar posting in Penang Talk by a Mark Boast. I contacted him and it turns out - Mark’s father worked on Western Hill, Penang with the RAF (Radar) .

The Jackson are Alan (Allan?) and Dee Jackson who originally came from Norfolk. (They did say they came from and area sort of near Nottingham (( the only reference point in England for an Aussie kid – hey Robin Hood was my hero)) .

Mark’s father is on Morphine for pain these days and finds it difficult to recall much.

He was RAF (Radar) and the last he remembers of him was in 1979 when he worked with my Father at the Staxton Wold Radar base in East Yorkshire England. My dad believes he went back to Norfolk to work as a Gardener and Lee as a Housekeeper in some big country estate house in Norfolk - after that he has no record.

Debbie Pope.

I was recently contacted by two different people who had served with me in the 12th Royal Lancers in Barnard Castle U. K. and then in Malaya 1951-1954. It was great hearing from them and brought back a lot of the past. I served with the Regiment for 5-1/2 years before going to Kenya in 1955 as an inspector during the Mau-Mau campaign. I would appreciate anyone having the same background to contacting me at t.rees@shaw.ca

I am trying to find out more about my father's days in Malaya. He died 10 years ago, and was very reluctant to talk about his experiences. I have very little to go on - not even a service number. But I do have a ceremonial Japanese sword, with a small plaque 'Presented to Major ETR Cawsey, HQ BMA Malaya 1945'.

I know very little else for definite, but I know he started out in the Royal Artillery (something to do with the Hyde Park battery in the early days of the war). Towards the end of the war he was injured landing on a small island somewhere in Malaysia area ( nothing very dramatic - he fell on the boat and broke his shoulder). He may have had some connection with Changi - any mention of that would clearly touch a very raw nerve - though I am sure he was ever a POW. And he stayed in Malaya though to the mid 1950's, with connections in the Police Force. The (very few) friends he kept in touch with from those days are sadly all dead now, but they knew him as James, rather than Edward/Ted - not sure when he switched.

I would be grateful to hear from anyone who knew him.

Hello to all. I'm trying to trace any friends of my Father who severed in Malaya around 1957/58 But I seem to be hitting a dead end. My father died in 1986. I live in West Yorkshire and believe my father served with the the Gurka Rifles. My dad never often spoke of his time in the army (Although I knew he had been shot) His second wife got rid of all his photos and ex army things so I only have a couple of photos and what I think is a shirt badge with a pair of crossed Gurka Knives. My Father was an orphan who I believe came from the Barnsley area. I know this may be a long shot but thank you for taking the time to read it.( His name Stanley Earp and I believe his best friend was called Peter Dimbleby.

Any help would be very much appreciated

Hello,

My father, Flt Lt Michael Morling (navigator) served with 209 Squadron, based at Seletar 1962/63. He sadly lost his life on Feb 14th 1963 in an aircraft crash (Twin Pioneer) over the Lopeng River, Long Semado, Sarawak. The aircraft had taken off from Labuan airfield to take part in a search for a missing army patrol. It was not possible, I understand, to get to the aircraft and there were no survivors. I was 9 at the time and we lived at Seletar.

I have long dreamt of returning there and this coming February I will be going back, with my husband and children, to Sarawak. I would like to be contacted by anyone who remembered my father - although I was young I do know that he was regarded as a 'good bloke'! Also a good sportsman (cricket).

If anyone has any memories about him, please contact me.

Best wishes

LETTER RECEIVED FROM INGA DEACON

For my grandchildren, I am trying to write an account of my husBand's flying career. He was F/Lt Harry Deacon, based at Bandoeng, Java from 3-11-1945 to 15-02-1946, he was a first pilot on Dakotas with B flight, 31 (T) Squadron. He usually flew with F/Lt Hogan and crew, not named in his log. Occasionally mentioned are S/L Mclyall, F.O.Dunkley, F/Lt Bowring, F.O. White and F.O. Gannett. The Dekotas are mainly KN, KG, RJ and F.D

The duties were very varied - mainly evacuating RA.P.W1. casualties, dropping rations to P.O.W. camps and ferrying stores and personnel.

I would be very grateful if any of your members who were stationed at Bandoeng, or who were P.O.W's evacuated by 31 Squadron, would tell me anything they remember.

Harry was sent home with something called "Chinese foot rot", so he wasn't with the Squadron for long, but he remembered it with affection.

Yours Sincerely

Inga Deacon

Harry is far left.

If anyone has any information for Inga please contact me and I will pass it on.

FROM SYDNEY AUSTRALIA

COULD YOU PLEASE HELP! I am trying hard to find an ex-POW but constantly keep coming up with dead ends. I am searching for Capt. Bill Drower, a British Officer who was in Singapore in WW2 when it fell to the Japs. He was a POW & was in "A" Force on the Burma/ Thailand Railway .He read, wrote and spoke fluent Japanese. He may have been an MI 6 agent but I'm not sure about that.

After the war he may have been a special officer attached to Batavia British Embassy & Washington British Embassy. He had also made contact with Australian ex- POW Roy Whitecross, helping him with information for a book Roy was writing about their POW experiences. I was lead to believe he lived in Somerset.

My Dad was also a POW in Changi and on the "RAILWAY" for 3 1/2 yrs., (Aust. 8th. Div H.Q.) but sadly he passed away in 1998 after many years of war caused ill health.

ANY help, you can be, would be greatly appreciated, as I'm sure you understand how hard it is to get results, embarking on a project like this, with so little information and being so far away.
