Mission Statement

New Life Lutheran Church provides an inviting place for Spirit-led Christian worship and prayer, where God’s Holy Word is preached and Christ becomes a witness to His promises of forgiveness, grace, and love.

1. Inviting Place

New Life Lutheran Church is a welcoming place where the presence of God is felt.

New Life Lutheran Church is here by God’s gracious invitation to be in His presence. This is accomplished through His divinely appointed means of Grace, Word and Sacrament. We share His promises and extend invitations to come and meet the Savior. We follow up our witness with care and love. An inviting place begins and ends with an inviting people!

2. Spirit-Led Christian Worship and Prayer

At New Life Lutheran Church, the presence of the Holy Spirit is acknowledged through worship, prayer, and music. We pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit not only during the worship service but throughout the week. We are drawn by the Holy Spirit throughout the week to worship and pray to our good and gracious Heavenly Father. We invoke God’s name and seek His will at our every meeting. The Spirit has gifted ,us with joy, music and everything needed for the building up of the Body.

3. God’s Holy Word

God’s word is clear, unchangeable and eternal; it is our one foundation. God’s word is eternal, immutable, inspired, and clear in its giving. His word is foundational, necessary, effective, and profitable for all godliness.

4. Preached and Taught

The truth of the Bible--God’s Holy Word--is central to our worship, prayer, confession and study. God’s Holy Word is the foundation for our Sunday School, Confirmation, adult education and all church ministries. We use a variety of methods to bring God’s Word to all of God’s children. We abide in His word for preaching and prayer, and gather daily in study of that Word. Our desire is for every member to be in daily devotions and in weekly worship and Bible Study.

5. Every Person Comes to Believe in Jesus Christ

To bring people to believe and grow in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and to give their lives to Christ, we are to present Christ through the spoken and written word and continue that Christian education throughout the lives of our members.

It is the responsibility of the Pastor and the church leadership to establish a system of lifelong education and training that enables and supports each congregational member’s growth. Faith comes from hearing the Gospel message. The preaching and teaching through New Life and its members is entirely for the birthing, awakening, growing, strengthening, and sustaining of each individual, with the goal that they come to believe in Jesus Christ and so receive the benefit of forgiveness of sin, new life, and salvation.

6. Becomes a Witness

Our goal is to help each of us become a witness, spreading the message of God’s grace, forgiveness of sins, and eternal life. We are to model the kind of life that God would have us follow. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we will become living testimonies of a life dedicated to following Christ as one of his disciples. Each person has strengths that help to support God’s work. Our witness is made by each member sharing the message of Jesus’s forgiveness. Witnessing is always primarily verbal. We speak of Jesus and His love and of God and His grace for sinners, not about ourselves or our efforts to be good examples. The Spirit gives us the words for witness, and we are always prepared to give an accounting of the hope that is in us. We seek to do everything in the name of Jesus and for His glory.

The priority for our witness is those who have never heard, those who do not believe, and those who do not worship. We draw on missions around the world to help us train, inspire, motivate, and focus each member to be Christ’s witness.

In our Duluth/Hermantown area, our priorities for witness are the following:

  1. Elementary school-aged children;
  2. Those who have heard, but do not believe, who are primarily young adults; and
  3. Those who believe but do not regularly attend weekly worship, who are career engaged men.

7. To His Promises of Forgiveness, Grace and Love

The Bible, the true Word of God, commands us to repent and promises that Christ will grant us forgiveness of all our sins. By his love and grace, we will inherit eternal life. By His death on the cross, He has paid the price for our sins.

It’s always about Jesus. We bring sin, death, and separation from God, but in a great exchange through the blood of His Son, Jesus, He gives those who believe in Him the gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation. This is most certainly true!
